Rohan studied electronics, then found out that he preferred the outdoor half of the subject, and joined a crew servicing radio towers on the Colorado plains. He is happiest two hundred feet up, when the wind drops and the whole horizon is level.
At thirty he is the one the crew radios first when something goes wrong, because he answers in exactly three words. Off the tower he cooks big pots of dal, runs along dirt roads and keeps a small notebook of the sunrises he liked.
