Ignacio took a night job hanging lamps at a Tucson theatre to pay for a truck and stayed for the ladder work. He learned the grid by heart, the way other men learn a neighbourhood, and now he can aim a lamp in the dark by the sound of the shutters.
At twenty-five he is the crew member who is always up high when the doors open. He talks fast on the headset and slowly with his hands. People mistake the banter for nerves. It is closer to a show he does before he lets anyone see the plain man under it.
